An Ode

So, this isn’t neccesarily an argument as much as a poem I wrote. It tackles a couple of issues that I feel strongly about, such as socialism, morality and collectivism. But anyways, here it is! I hope you enjoy.

In a captivating sleep, I saw hell in dream.

He was ever changing as fire, and came in a team

Of not one, not two, but three future fates

That watch as I write this and anxiously await.

The first creature that came was blind, yet had sight

And I was him, watching you, from a great height.

We saw peace and rule from our castle in the sky.

Nothing but beauty would pass you by

But he handed this beholder back down to the ground

Where suddenly, no beauty was to be found.

Man was not working for man, but for his brothers.

It was no man for himself, but one another.

This first monster was ignorance, and I was infected with his plague.

I became a statistic in the pandemic of the world today

For believing that one should work for others benefit;

To the weaker wills the stronger must submit.

Entity two was a beautiful man

Who appeared in a strobe light and held out his hand

To seduce me to a place of sin and splendor

Where the two of us became a single offender.

Trapped in a body, though we were dead,

Robbed of our accomplishments, left, and bled.

Watching the world around us die

Yet still let out a feeble cry:

“Why am I trapped in the place of the damned?

I worshipped the holy, the son, the lamb!”

“You visited the home of the divine,” came a thunderous reply,

“But your supposed morals were defied!”

That second horror was pure pleasure,

Not of success, but of a worldly treasure.

The pleasure of contentedness with flesh attainment

Which lead to nothing save eternal torment.

The last demon was the worst yet

Who stole my identity and made me forget

All thoughts and opinions from before

And his ideas were what I came to adore.

I joined a million minions identical to me

Who lost ourselves into a collective ‘We’.

We were Satan’s cohorts, recruited by the sin

Of letting the corruption of our modern lives win.

In this final hell We rotted away

Until finally just now did I awake

With a mission before me, clearly in my head:

To prevent a future such as this from coming ahead.

To live wide awake and free of ignorance,

Think past tomorrow and towards the lamb,

And slow down to shape who I really am.

And when I meet these monsters again

This visit will have a different end.

tumblrbot asked: WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER WHEN YOU ARE IN A BAD MOOD?

Watching movies adapted from books, but only if I’ve read the book first.

So if you haven’t yet realized the purpose of this tumblr, it is for me to identify a topic or world issue I feel strongly about, and discuss it from the point of view of a teenager. Kinda like Model UN, ya dig? ;P So the very first topic I discuss shall be….
…
..
.
Abortion!
Abortion stems from unwanted pregnancies. It is chosen by teenagers and adults alike as a way out of the consequences of a bad decision. But with all of the fuss about illegalizing abortion, one must ask, is it moral to outlaw abortion?
As of 2007, most states in the U.S. require at least parental consent or notification before aborting an unborn child. Some, more liberal states, have no policy for abortion at all! With that in mind, how can we truly decide which one is right?
For a girl with big dreams for the future, an unwanted pregnancy could mean the death of my hopes and dreams. That in itself is enough for me to practice the safest sex - none at all. However, many of my peers with likeminded dreams do not wish to stay abstinent, which is also fine. In my opinion, no one but yourself can determine how you live your life. No matter what your age, a baby can change your entire life.
I am Pro-Life. Not the Pro-Life that is popularized by extremists wishing to end abortion; I am Pro-Life in that I hold the upmost respect for MY life will not let others dictate what I do with it. My moral code dictates that if nobody can tell me what I can and cannot do with my own body, I can’t do that to somebody else.
The issue of abortion is very controversial. To me, there are two sides of it- personally, and lawfully. Personally is exactly what it sounds like- it is a PERSONAL decision. Whether you decide from a religious or moral standpoint, it is YOUR standpoint. Lawfully is, in my honest opinion, a socialist point of view. No one can tell me how to live my life. The law states the punishment for acts that can endanger others; however, abortion does no harm to anyone except for the person who choses it. Just because 10, 20, or even 50 senators would never get an abortion does not negate my right to one.
One of my favorite authors, Ayn Rand, took a similiar, albeit much more extreme approach to the issue of abortion. She is quoted to have said, “Abortion is a moral right—which should be left to the sole discretion of the woman involved; morally, nothing other than her wish in the matter is to be considered. Who can conceivably have the right to dictate to her what disposition she is to make of the functions of her own body?” (The Voice of Reason, 58-59.) This quote, I believe, sums it all up.
I hope you enjoyed this very first post! For more of Ayn Rand’s thoughts on Abortion, you can visit http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/abortion.html#order_1
